Fly Creek Cider Mill re-opens for 159th season March 27

Join us Friday for founder portrait unveiling

Fly Creek, NY- The Fly Creek Cider Mill is busily preparing for its 159th season marked by history, traditions and tastes that visitors from miles around come to enjoy.  The historic water-powered cider mill known for its original vintage equipment is also popular with New York’s foodies.  While apples, cider, cheese and fudge are the Mill’s core products they continually increase their wide variety of specialty foods.  Visitors can enjoy daily tastings of more than 40 specialty foods including barbeque sauces, marinades, salad dressings, syrups, salsas, dip mixes plus apple wines and hard ciders.  Now in their 16th year of ownership, Brenda and Bill Michaels have developed the Mill into a food-lovers’ destination through diverse products and programming targeted to creating a flavorful visitor experience.

To celebrate this year’s season opening Bill and Brenda Michaels commissioned a portrait of the modern-day founders Barbara and Charlie Michaels by Monica Acee.   On Friday, March 27 at 1:00 p.m. the portrait will be unveiled by Acee in the cider gallery where the formal sitting was photographed.  “We are excited to see the painting and plan to display it prominently in the Mill for all our visitors to see,” says Bill Michaels, Co-owner of the Mill.  “I saw Monica’s work highlighted in Mohawk Valley Living Magazine and knew that her style would be perfect for capturing the presence of my parents in front of our historic cider press.”  Acee specializes in watercolor using a time-consuming method of layering paint resulting in depth and luminosity while maintaining a contemporary feel.  The Michaels welcome visitors, friends and the press to the unveiling on Friday.

The Mill’s first big spring event will be the return of the CiderRun on April 25.  This is the third year for the CiderRun’s 10K/5K race through picturesque Fly Creek Valley.  The run benefits the Northeast Division of The Alzheimer’s Association.  For registration and more race information visit
