Mill Team and Friends Experience Culinary Delights of the Finger Lakes
7th Annual Voyage of Discovery a Huge Success
Canandaigua, New York- The Fly Creek Cider Mill team members and friends enjoyed beautiful weather and culinary treats during their motorcoach trip to the Finger Lakes Saturday, March 28. The Mill’s school-on-wheels participants toured, tasted and learned production and merchandising methods at Montezuma Winery, Red Jacket Orchards, and Swedish Hill Winery.
The tour highlight was a luncheon, wine tasting and dessert demonstration at the New York Wine and Culinary Center in Canandaigua. The center focuses on Pride of New York foods and beverages showcasing them in hands-on kitchens, tasting theaters and interactive exhibits. The group’s meal, tasting and demonstration were presented in the Wine Spectator Educational Theater. They enjoyed entrees of fresh salmon, stuffed chicken and eggplant all created with ingredients from New York State. A select five-flight wine tasting of New York “90 or above” point wines was followed by Executive Chef Carlo Peretti’s dessert demonstration of walnut cheesecake. “The center is very impressive with all that it offers,” said Bill Michaels, co-owner of the Mill. “The facility and exhibits are top-notch. We came away with a better understanding and appreciation of the culinary diversity of New York State.”
The annual “edu-tainment” trip provides the team a boost of energy and excitement for the Mill’s opening this Friday, April 3rd.  Expanded “Taste of Fly Creek Series” programming on weekends is scheduled with focused tastings of select specialty foods in addition to the Mill’s 40 daily samples.  To kick off the series Pride of New York producer Palatine Valley Dairy will sample their famous fresh cheese curds on opening weekend.   The Fly Creek Cider Mill is located just minutes from Cooperstown and 24 miles south of Herkimer. Hours are 9:00 until 6:00 daily starting April 3. For more information call the Mill at 607-547-9692 or visit their website at For more information on the New York Wine and Culinary Center call 585-394-7070 or visit
