Gerald and Barbara Jahreis of Eden, NY pare and slice apples for visitors to the 2010 CiderFest at the Fly Creek Cider Mill.
The Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard extends an open invitation to all Antique Apple Parer Enthusiasts to showcase their collection during the annual Fly Creek Cider Mill CiderFest on October 8 & 9 from 10:00 until 4:00 each day. The weekend features the Mill doing what it does best, making fresh, sweet cider the old-fashioned way on its 1889 water-powered cider press. Outside community volunteers will showcase and operate the Mills large collection of portable hand presses.
Parer collectors are invited to join the fun in showing and using their parers along with Charlie Michaels, President of the International Society of Apple Parer Enthusiasts (IAPES). Charlie will be demonstrating his large personal parer collection many of which are newly acquired from the recent Gerald Laverty Collection Estate Auction. Last year the festival was attended by members from western New York who enjoyed talking parers with over 4000 Mill visitors over the weekend. “We went through about 40 bushels of apples last year and the Society made some money from the donations given.” Says Charlie. “Everyone is welcome to attend and we really have fun.”
To register for participation contact Bill Michaels, Vice President of the Fly Creek Cider Mill at 607-547-9692 ext.111 or
